This month’s full moon is known as the Strawberry Moon, which is fitting since I just harvested some strawberries and raspberries out of my garden! It’s also known as the Rose Moon. Sooo I’m a little late on the latest full moon painting, the Flower Moon. I can explain....if you would like to hear more, please keep reading. Otherwise, enjoy the painting (also, a like and a share would be cool too).⠀ ⠀ May brings a lot of emotions with it. My mother passed away a couple years ago, and with Mother’s Day and her birthday (29th) being in the same month, it gets hard to power through. I have a tendency to either overwork and seek solitude or force myself into extroverted activities, because feeding into my depression has had very negative side effects. ⠀ ⠀ My mom enjoyed working in her garden, planting new flowers in spring, growing shamrocks for St. Patrick’s day, planting this willow tree to soak up the “swamp” in the yard (the tree dwarfs the house now). It’s something she got from her mother, and something I do now in honor of her. Every year around Mother’s Day I add something to my ever continuing yard projects. I take time outside of my studio, and plant flowers for my mom. ⠀ ⠀ It’s therapeutic. It helps me work through the sadness and anger that I feel knowing my mom won’t ever get to see my first house, and all the plants and flowers I’m trying to squeeze into nook and cranny. She won’t ever get to meet Cory, who’s helped me deal with loss of another kind. She won’t ever realize how lost I sometimes feel without her or how helpless it felt not being able to help her for all those years when I know she was hurting. ⠀ ⠀ I know that she’s moved on from this place. She no longer hurts. She can truly know peace. Someday, knowing those things may comfort me in some way. Until then, there will always be flowers.
