This bird for the Bird Whisperers probably has the most interesting name, Australian Boobook. It is the smallest owl native to Australia’s mainland, and feeds on a large number of insects, mice, and even small birds (think house sparrow). It has 8 subspecies all classified by their distinct calls. Here’s another fancy little bird for the Bird Whisperers! I introduce you to the American Goldfinch. This little bird ranges from Canada, where it breeds, to Mexico, where it overwinters. It’s actually one of the few birds that has benefited from human deforestation, because it prefers the open meadows.
