A blog for the art and life of Shannon Eagle. Really this is just going to be a hot mess...save yourself.

I don’t think a picture could describe quite literally what it feels like to be a working artist in our current climate. ⠀ ⠀ In the beginning, I never could justify selling my art on masks, because, to me personally, it felt like capitalising on a pandemic. I’ve never felt comfortable doing political art. Not because I don’t have any political stances, but for me, my work is about things that bring joy (like my love for animals) or escaping into mythology & folklore. I always love a good story, and there are SO MANY. Now, with everything carrying a very “financially doomed” sense it’s hard to push the literal way I pay my bills, because it’s not “a necessity.”⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #shannoneagleart #tinyworksofart #covidtimes #yesisellmywork #artforsale #doyouwantobuyapainting #yesyousangthattofrozen #nowyoureallydid #monday #caseofthemondays

Ahh, the Greater Roadrunner, or as they’re known in more “scientific” circles as Tastyus Supersonicus. These desert dwelling birds can outrun humans (and the occasional cartoon-based coyote), kill & eat rattlesnakes, and get some of their water by eating moisture-rich prey. They hold a special place in tribal lore, and the X-shaped mark their footprint makes is used as a sacred symbol by Pueblo tribes to ward off evil. ⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #shannoneagleart #tinyworksofart #birdwhisperers #bird #birding #audubonsociety #nationalaudobonsociety #birb #birdsofinstagram #roadrunner #roadrunners #greaterroadrunner #saturdaymorningcartoons #art #nature #fauna #instagood #natureart #painting #acrylic #acrylicpainting #wileycoyote

This bird for the Bird Whisperers probably has the most interesting name, Australian Boobook. It is the smallest owl native to Australia’s mainland, and feeds on a large number of insects, mice, and even small birds (think house sparrow). It has 8 subspecies all classified by their distinct calls. I painted this fancy specimen on a 9x12” wood round in acrylic. ⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #shannoneagleart #tinyworksofart #birdart #birdwhisperers #owl #owls #australia #australianboobook #australianbird #bird #birdofprey #nightowl #hoot #boobook #tinybird #nocturnal #art #birdart #natureart #instagood

Here’s another fancy little bird for the Bird Whisperers! I introduce you to the American Goldfinch. This little bird ranges from Canada, where it breeds, to Mexico, where it overwinters. It’s actually one of the few birds that has benefited from human deforestation, because it prefers the open meadows. It is the state bird of Iowa, New Jersey (Eastern Goldfinch), and Washington (Willow Goldfinch).⠀ I painted this guy on a 9” wood round using acrylics. ⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #shannoneagleart #tinyworksofart #birdwhisperers #birdart #bird #birb #birding #statebird #goldfinch #finch #eastergoldfinch #willowgoldfinch #americangoldfinch #instaart #art #acrylic #painting #iowa #newjersey #washington #fauna #natureart

Been kinda M.I.A. In the art posting department. Mostly trying to reassess how I handle things as this year pretty much gets flushed down the toilet. ⠀ ⠀ Playing catch up with all my Bird Whisperer pieces was definitely needed, so without further ado, I bring you the Altamira Oriole! These are the largest species of Oriole in North America, and live mainly in Mexico, but have been spotted in Texas. I painted this little guy on a 9” wood round in acrylic. ⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #shannoneagleart #tinyworksofart #birdwhisperers #bird #birding #audubonsociety #nationalaudobonsociety #birb #birdsofinstagram #oriole #orioles #altamiraoriole #art #nature #fauna #instagood #natureart #painting #acrylic #acrylicpainting
